Spring Lambing Season
The lambing season is in full swing on the farm, with the days full of spring sunshine. We follow traditional lambing practices, with most of our lambs born from late March. This year, however, nature had other plans, and we welcomed some early arrivals!
Our flock includes both Mule sheep and Exlana sheep, two hardy, low-maintenance breeds known for being excellent natural mothers. Most of our ewes lamb outdoors in the fields, following the natural rhythms of farm life. However, if a ewe is expecting triplets, we bring her into the lambing sheds to keep a close eye on the birthing process.
With over 400 ewes lambing during this busy time of year, we sometimes need to assist to ensure the safe delivery of the lambs. Even after a challenging birth, it’s amazing to see how quickly the lambs are on their feet and looking to feed, while the ewe instinctively begins to clean and care for her newborns.
It’s a wonderful time on the farm – lambing season truly showcases nature at its best.
